Can I be sure that my softshell jacket is warm enough for my winter hikes?
The inside of your jacket is brushed – a tried and tested method for retaining warmth. The principle is simple: the component knit is structured to add volume to trap air, which is naturally insulating. It is exactly the same principle as animal fur or feathers. A small extra, this jacket has cuffs at the wrists to stop cold air from entering.
Thermal comfort and windproof
The wind makes you feel considerably colder.
Where the outside temperature is 0°, with winds of 20 km, the temperature feels like -10°.
"Windproof" components fight the uncomfortable effects associated with this "freezing effect". Forming a barrier against the wind, they effectively reduce heat loss.
Slim fit: A slim fit and elastane-based composition for extreme comfort in use.
Component water resistance
A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to make water run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, warm and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products are available for this purpose in our stores.
How to dress properly for snow hiking?
To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle:
layer 1: The high-tech base layer transfers moisture away from the body to keep your skin dry.
layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards.
layer 3: The jacket protects you from the outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind.
The whole outfit must be breathable in order to eliminate moisture.

What is the environmental impact of the products and how can you compare them?
A product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators.
A score from A to E is produced to help you make a responsible choice.
This rating is used to easily identify the products with the best environmental performance.
This is done by making a comparison between products of the same family (e.g. backpacks).
Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of this environmentally-friendly labelling approach.
