Waterproofing of the component of these overtrousers
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
These over trousers are designed with a waterproof coating (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5,000 mm H20 (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5 metre column of water).
Waterproofing of these overtrousers
The waterproof properties of the over trousers aren’t just that of its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.
Sewn watertight, the overall waterproof properties of your over trousers are measured with a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
These Raincut waterproof over trousers protect you from a small shower equivalent to 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Performance of the overtrousers in the rain
To maintain a durable water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
- in your tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic program)
- with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm going back and forth twice
- or twice over with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function
Fabric breathability
The fabric of these overtrousers is breathable: RET = 12.
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability
Choosing your waterproof overtrousers according to your level of physical effort
This product is designed for hikes lasting several hours while walking at a pace of no more than 5km/h.
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effortIf the fabric's breathability isn't suited to the type of activity/exercise your perspiration will condense inside jacket. You will feel damp insideIt is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensing You need to choose over-trousers in line with your activity type.

TESTS AND WARRANTY
Test product
Our Quechua global design centre is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie.
This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc) and outdoor sports enthusiasts, to test our products on natural terrain.
Our entire range of waterproof jackets and overtrousers is also subjected to a shower test carried out in our climatic chamber, in our laboratory near Lille.
