TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

How to choose the right wetsuit (Part 1)

The first selection criterion when choosing a surfing wetsuit is the water temperature. Water temperature varies according to the location and the time of the year. Systematically make sure that the water temperature at your spot corresponds to the recommended temperature range: Warm water above 20°C. Temperate water between 17°C and 22°C. Cold water between 12°C and 17°C. Very cold water between 7°C and 12°C. Visit the site seatemperature.org to find out the temperature of your spot.

How to choose the right wetsuit (Part 2)

The second criterion to take into account is the length of your sessions. If your sessions last less than an hour, the 100 models will be suitable. For up to 2 hours, opt for the 500 models and for up to 3 hours, the 900 models.
Compared to the 100 models, the 500 models will be warmer (and more watertight) and more efficient at reducing fatigue (more freedom of movement) and irritation. The same is true for the 900 models compared with the 500 models.
NOTE: the 900 models are easier to put on.

Choose the right size

To make the most of the features of your wetsuit, it is necessary to choose the correct size. A surfing wetsuit should be a very tight fit and there should be no visible folds. When dry, it is perfectly normal to feel like it is too tight, this discomfort disappears as soon as the wetsuit gets wet. If you choose a wetsuit that is too big, folds will appear, you will experience irritation and thermal insulation will be reduced (letting in water).
Try it on before you buy it!

MATERIALS

This 900 4/3 OLAIAN wetsuit is made of genuine neoprene to guarantee greater thermal insulation. The neoprene is lined with synthetic fabric for added abrasion resistance. Neoprene thickness: 4 and 3 mm. Neoprene is a closed-cell polychloroprene elastomeric foam with trapped nitrogen bubbles that have insulating properties. We test and guarantee the thermal quality of our neoprene materials.

COLLAR

The neck finish has been developed to limit irritation. According to the sensitivity of the wearer, a UV top can be worn under the wetsuit to reduce the risk of irritation. The application of grease (e.g. Vaseline) in friction areas (neck, underarms) is also recommended if wearing the wetsuit for long periods.Make sure the flap is always inside the wetsuit to limit the risk of irritation with the zip and the neck.

FASTENING

Our zips and fastenings are laboratory tested in order to ensure an optimal lifespan and good resistance to salt water. We have put the zip at the front of the wetsuit for more comfort and freedom of movement during board sports.

Watertight assembly

The seams are stitched and glued for a watertight seal and durability. The seams are blind-stitched, which means the thread does not pass through the entire thickness of the neoprene and so prevents water from getting through. The absence of threads on the inside avoids irritation and chafing. Patches for comfort and reinforcement are strategically placed on the inside in sensitive areas.

KEY POCKET

There is a key pocket under the zip flap

Anti-chafing design

We designed this product with seamless panels under the arms to limit irritation due to the repetitive paddling movements associated with surf sports.

Stay warm for longer thanks to our thermal accessories! Each temperature range has its own outfit...

When we are in the water, we lose more than half of our body heat through our extremities (feet, hands, head). Consequently, here are the recommended accessories:
- in warm water and temperate water (>17°C) => neoprene low booties.
- in cold water (12 - 17°C): High booties (boots) and gloves.
- in very cold water (7 - 12°C): High booties (boots), gloves, hood and hooded top...
Find our entire range of neoprene accessories on the Decathlon website

Multi-watersports wetsuits

Our wetsuits are designed to meet the needs of the most demanding surfers.
Our design choices also make them compatible with other watersports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, sea wading or SUP (stand-up paddleboarding).

Eco-design

Our 900 range of wetsuits are made from Limestone, a limestone-based neoprene. The black colour of the neoprene, called Eco Carbon Black, is obtained by recycling used tyres. The glue used to assemble the textile and neoprene, called Aquaglue, is water-based and solvent-free. The dope-dyed yarn process used for the black colour is very water-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Great fit
Nicholas (United Kingdom)
I'm 5 foot 10 and 84kg and with a moderately muscly build.

I do not fit into a size Large. I fit very nicely into an XL.

If you're in doubt about the size get what you think is right and a size larger and try both on. Size Large is far too difficult for me to fit into compared to XL.
Comfy and very warm
David (United Kingdom) Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Fits well and is relatively easy to put on. This wetsuit is less restrictive than others I have tried. Kept me warm in November UK waters. highly recommend

Bought for my husband so he could swim in the bay during winter. Perfect
Great suit
James (United Kingdom) Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Great fitting suit at a great price.
I'm 6ft1 about 90kgs and this fits so well.
The first couple of times was a bit tight but now easy to get on & off. Fits really tightly and been out surfing for 2hr sessions and could stay out for longer.
Good fit
Frederic (United Kingdom) Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Normally a MT or M but L as per size guide was spot on.
Superb suit and very good value
Mike (United Kingdom) Used for 1 week or less
Normally I’m a Meduim or MT, but I ordered a large based on the decathlon size calculator. I was a bit nervous that it wasn’t going to fit, but it fit perfectly. It’s definitely smaller than other brands, then.
The suit really kept me warm on a long surf, where my summer suit would be letting the cold in towards the end.
I can see this suit getting a lot of use.
Excellent surfing wetsuit (never cold again)
Nicolas (United States)
Bought this wetsuit and used it a couple of days in Seaside (Oregon) during the labor day week-end. I called it "never cold again". I used it with hood, gloves and booties, and I was able to stay in the water without any discomfort due to cold water. It fits true to size, so Medium is a real medium (think European sizing). Definitively recommend this product.
Excellent summer/autumn suit

An excellent, well made suit that keeps you very warm. The fit feels very tight around the shoulders when dry but soon loosens in the water. Build quality on par with my excel and e-bomb but nearly half the price. Dries quickly. It was actually too hot during the sunny days so had to keep flushing. Only improvement would be smooth skin chest and back for those windier, cooler days. Well worth the money. I will now be looking at a 3/2 for a trip to Lanzarote
Hugs the body and so warm.
James (United Kingdom) Used for 2 to 8 weeks
This wetsuit proves how Decathlon are listening to customer critiques and make improvements. The neck entry is greatly inproved, opening from only the left side. Entry is slightly more difficult (especially brand new), but water entry is reduced to almost zero. The ankle and wrist sections taper to increase tightness for a great seal. The new limestone-based neoprene is much warmer and I find even though this is a 4/3 has ease of movement like the summer 2018 3/2 model. In other words fits me like a glove and second skin. For a fit healthy male of 6ft, moderate musculature, the medium fits 100% perfect, no folds of voids anywhere. Was in water today for 5 hours at 11.2 Celsius.
The real test now is the durability of this new limestone-based neoprene.
