Waterproof overtrousers to protect also the lower body and thus to enjoy a complete and effective protection against rain during your excursions in the mountains. Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproof liquid to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise the garment’s performance throughout its lifespan.
  8. Main component
    3-layer coated fabric.
  9. Waterproofing of the garment
The resistance of a fabric is measured using water pressure expressed in mm of water column (test based on ISO 811). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Components with a 2000 mm rating can withstand the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting two hour).
  10. Waterproofing of the component
This garment has been shower-tested using 450 litres of water/sqm/hour for 4 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a tropical storm. Garment's waterproof properties linked to fabric used, watertight seams and assembly process .
  11. Component breathability
To find out if a fabric is breathable, its evaporative resistance RET (test based on ISO 11092) is measured. The lower the resistance, the more the fabric releases the water vapour generated by the active body, and the more it is breathable. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 920 = little or no breathability.
  12. Component with coating or a membrane
The coating is like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is a kind of very fine plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the component waterproof and maintains its breathability. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than the coating.
  13. 3-layer, 2-layer or 2.5-layer component
3 layers: the membrane is stuck between the inner and outer layers of the component. This construction helps the membrane last longer and enhances the component's performance. 2 layers: the membrane is only bonded to the outer fabric, while the inner protective lining is loose. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome. 2.5 layers: the membrane has inner protection with a kind of varnish coating rather than an actual layer to make it as lightweight as possible.
  14. Breathability of the garment
In addition to breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets and overtrousers designed for great hiking use (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow you to regulate the temperature inside the garment and also to facilitate the transfer of perspiration generated by the body during physical effort.
  15. Water repellent property of the component
A fabric is water repellent when it allows water to slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The water repellency is obtained by a treatment applied on the outer surface of the fabric. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.
  16. Product environmental impact comparison score
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle using different indicators. An overall ABCDE mark is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing similar products to each other (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc). Decathlon is committed to displaying the environmental data of its products. For more info:
