  6. Component waterproofing
This garment has been shower-tested using 450 L/sqm/hour of water for 4 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a tropical storm. The garment is made waterproof by its fabric, taped seams and assembly design.
  7. Component breathability
To find out if a fabric is breathable, its evaporative resistance RET (test based on ISO 11092) is measured. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity evaporates, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric 920 = little or no breathability. Your MH900 jacket has an RET value of 6 (extremely breathable fabric).
  8. Breathability of the garment
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its mountain walking jackets and overtrousers. These ventilation systems regulate the temperature inside the garment and eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during physical activity.
  9. Component with a hydrophilic membrane
The component of your MH900 jacket consists of a membrane. A membrane like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. A membrane has the advantage of being more supple, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than a coating. The coating is similar to a paint layer applied to the inside of the fabric. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection.
  10. 3-layer component
The MH900 jacket has a so-called "3 layer" component. The membrane is, in fact, bonded between the inner layer and the outer layer of the component (hence the name 3-layer component). This construction prolongs the life of the membrane and enhances the component's performance. In the case of 2-layer components, the membrane is bonded to the outer fabric only, while the protective inner lining is free. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome.
  11. Water repellent property of the component
A fabric’s water repellent property is what makes water run off its surface without getting absorbed. This prevents the fabric from absorbing water, keeping it lightweight, breathable and warm. The fabric is made water repellent by treating its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every 3 washes). All the Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.
  12. Additional recommended products
To complete the outfit, providing effective protection from the rain in the mountains, there are also the MH500 overtrousers for the lower half of the body. Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproofing liquid to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
  13. Product environmental impact comparison score
The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators. An overall rating from A to E is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon is committed to displaying the environmental information of its products. For more information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
