Product feature
  1. Backpack technical tests.
We conduct lab tests to validate the following components: fabrics, buckles, straps, foams, zips, etc. For a fabric, for example: resistance to abrasion, wear, washing, water-resistance and colour-fastness under UV rays, etc. Then a test on the finished product that speeds up the demands on the bag over the years, to check the durability of assemblies: the backpack is weighted, then placed on a dummy which reproduces the movement of fast walking through thousands of cycles.
  2. 10-year technical partnership warranty
The Strenfit component brand, Quechua's partner for researching and testing its components and assemblies, conducted tests simulating backpack ageing. These tests were conducted on the components, the seams and the finished product. The results of these tests are used by Quechua and Strenfit to guarantee the bags for 10 years from the purchase date shown on the receipt.
  3. How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Carry heavy gear (tent, stove, food) closest to your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet can be placed under the flap; the tent goes under the bag if it doesn't fit inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. In the pockets, spread out the small equipment you use during the day (sun cream, map, sunglasses, etc). If carrying a hydration pack (water bladder), this should be placed in its special pocket along the back.
  4. How is backpack volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. Next, they are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water to test that the inside remains perfectly dry. The net weight is that of our reference sample. There may be slight variations.
  5. A score for comparing products' environmental impact
The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators. An overall ABCDE rating is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing and contrasting products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon actively promotes this environmental rating initiative. For more info: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
  6. Why are our rain covers coloured grey?
The grey colour is neutral and therefore uses less dye. The component is made of BITON: as a result, the environmental impact of the MT700 70L is 10% less than the former model: symbium access. By using dope-dye for the lining materials, much less water is consumed than a more brightly coloured fabric. It is by taking small measures of this kind that Forclaz is demonstrating its commitment to improve the environmental impact of its products.
