  1. The principle of a self-inflating mattress
    A self-inflating mattress consists of an airtight envelope glued to an open cell foam in which the air circulates. When you unfold the mattress, it will return to its original shape and thickness (2.5 cm for the trek 500 mattress) and fill with air accordingly. However, it requires mouth-inflation to attain the required pressure that suits you. Self-inflation is more or less noticeable depending on the thickness of the mattress.
  2. Easy inflation/deflation
    When using your mattress for the first time, unroll, open the valve for 24 hours on a flat surface, then inflate it and leave it for 24 hours, valve closed, under pressure. Then you can store it away again. While trekking, take out and unroll your mattress as soon as you set up camp, valve open to facilitate pre-inflation. A self-inflating mattress inflates itself to approximately 60 to 70%. You will need to blow up the rest yourself, so you can adjust the pressure to your desired comfort level.
  3. Thermal protection and heat
    Thermal insulation thanks to the foam. The R-Value expresses the performance and thermal resistance of the mattress. The higher the R-Value, the more the mattress insulates you from the cold ground. An R-Value of 5.9 means a minimum temperature of use of approximately -24°C. 0.7 corresponds to +11°C Indicative R-Value:2.3 (measured by an external EMPA laboratory)

    Since the beginning of 2020, a new standard has been validated to assess the level of insulation of your mattress: standard: ASTM F3340-18.
