How to make sounds with the call
Just press with your thumb to make a sound. A different sound can be obtained by pressing longer and harder down to a second stop.
To make a variety of sounds, just vary the pressure with your thumb:
- single short pressure: imitate the call of a fawn.
- single, slightly longer pressure, not pressing down to the stop: call of the roe doe
- long pressure down to the stop: mating call of a roe doe on heat
Use
Depending on the state of the rut, the animals present in the vicinity, the weather conditions etc., at least one of these three sounds will produce good results. Whatever the conditions, the call must be used sparingly, in a natural manner. Over-use of the call reduces its effectiveness.
But the best way to learn is in the field, by observing the reactions of the deer.
