Water repellent without PFC
The fabric of this jacket is water repellent: it lets water slide over its surface without seeping in. In this way, the fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays light and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior.
Waterproofing of the component of this jacket
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5,000 mm H20 (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5 metre column of water).
WATERPROOFNESS OF THIS JACKET
The waterproof properties of this jacket aren’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.
Sewn then sealed, the overall waterproof properties of your jacket are measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
As such, this waterproof NH500 jacket protects you from a light shower, equivalent to 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Resistant performance of your jacket
To maintain a water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
- in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic program)
- with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
- or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.
Fabric breathability
The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET = 12.Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability

TESTS AND WARRANTY
Test product
Our Quechua global design centre is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute-Savoie.
This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) and outdoor sports enthusiasts to test our products on natural terrain.
Our range of waterproof jackets and over trousers also undergoes a shower test in our climatic chamber at our Decathlon Sportslab laboratory near Lille.

This jacket was tested and approved in June 2022 by a group of testers during a rainy day’s hike by Lake Annecy, Haute-Savoie.
In order to meet your requirements, Quechua products are tested in the wild in the conditions you encounter during your hikes.
Our teams, as well as a tester panel (made up of partners, ambassadors and customers) test products throughout their development until they go to market.
