Is a ground mat really necessary for yoga?
You've decided to take up yoga and when it comes to getting kitted out, you're tempted to use your gym or camping mat. Not a good idea! To be used for yoga, a mat must meet certain criteria for grip and thickness. This is so that you can exercise comfortably and, above all, without risk of injury during dynamic sequences and balancing exercises.
Why do you need a grippy yoga mat?

But for good stability and to feel your connection to the ground, it shouldn't be too thick either. The recommended thickness for yoga mats is between 1.5 and 8 mm. "Over time, dust, creams, sweat and other residues end up damaging the grippy layer of polyurethane mats.That's why it's vital to clean them regularly.
To do this, clean your mat with warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. If the dirt is well embedded, you can leave it to soak for a few minutes. Then let it dry naturally before rolling it up again.Avoid exposing it to the sun".
